Ecodesign Requirements for Textiles and Furniture

The EU Ecodesign Directive has strong potential to ensure that designers take material efficiency considerations along with other environmental impacts into account when developing products. However, the implementing tools of the Directive (see Box 1) have so far mostly focused on improving the energy efficiency of energy related products. Little focus has been given to material use. The Nordic Council of Ministers commissioned this project to demonstrate how material resource related ecodesign requirements can be drawn up for non-energy-related products using textiles and furniture as an example.
